DEPARTED FRIENDS

Coed Coch Lili [1975 - 1990]

Coed Coch Lili was the solid rock on which our small stud is built. Through her son and daughters, all our home-bred Section A's are direct descendents of Lili.

Her first foal, born in 1979, was a colt, Nerwyn Cadno, who is now our elder statesman. In later years she produced Nerwyn Pelydryn by Coed Coch Penadur, who was stud stallion at the Polaris Stud until its dispersal; Nerwyn Leah by Gartconnel Salad; Nerwyn Lola by Baledon Jonathon (sold to the Sunwillow Stud) and finally Nerwyn Linda by Coed Coch Llafar.

Her untimely death at the age of fifteen was a great loss to us, and the fact that she was an irregular breeder means that the three offspring we retained are extremely precious and are much sought-after bloodlines.

During her showring career Lili was very successful and won prizes at some of our major county shows, including Championships at Devon County, Royal Lancashire, Anglesey County, Ponies UK, Oswestry, Meirioneth County, Clwyd Association and the North Western Association to name but a few. She also won first prize at the Royal Welsh Show in 1985.

Nerwyn Leah [1986 - 2002]

Nerwyn Leah was most successful as a brood mare for us. She bred mainly to our two stallions Nerwyn Tywysog and Verdrefawr Daniel. When mated to Tywysog she produced Nerwyn Gwyrthiol, Nerwyn Lieta, Nerwyn Llewelyn (exported to South Africa) and Nerwyn Lawnslot. Mated to Daniel she produced Nerwyn Leila, Nerwyn Lorna, and Nerwyn Lorena.

Leah was shown very successfully as a youngster, winning many Championships as a foal, yearling and two and three year old. As a yearling, she was second in her class at the Royal Welsh out of 68 entries, and as a two year old was placed third. We did not show her much as a brood mare as she got fed up of showing and therefore we thought it best for her to breed instead.

Her early death was a great loss to us.

Nerwyn Tywysog [1988 - 2006]

Nerwyn Tywysog

Tywysog was the second son of Cadno and we chose to retain him as he was again of pure Coed Coch bloodlines.

He was lightly shown over the years; as a two-year-old colt he was second at the Royal Welsh and won many championships. He was also Section A Stallion Pony of the Year at the Northern Counties Ponies Association.

It is, however, as a sire that he made his mark with us. He sired two full brothers and two full sisters out of Nerwyn Leah - Nerwyn Llewelyn and Nerwyn Lawnslot; and Nerwyn Gwyrthiol and Nerwyn Lieta.   Llewelyn was exported to Jean Budler's Llandilo Stud in South Africa and Lawnslot is now being shown successfully under saddle. Gwyrthiol is currently out on lease with Ann Sparling in Carmarthenshire, and Lieta is now under the ownership of Catrin Williams of the Deucoch Stud.

It was a very difficult and heartbreaking decision to have to put this wonderful stallion to sleep at the age of eighteen. He has proved to be an invaluable asset to our stud, and his passing leaves a large void that will be extremely difficult to fill.

Nerwyn Lisa [2000-2007]

Nerwyn Lisa was a full sister to Nerwyn Leila, Nerwyn Lorna and Nerwyn Lorena.

Verdrefawr Daniel [1991-2008]

Verdrefawr Daniel

Daniel was bought as a yearling to hopefully be our outcross to place on our mares. He exceeded all expectations and has definitely clicked with our stock, producing some outstanding mares for us, including Nerwyn Leila who was Reserve Female Champion at the 1999 Royal Welsh Show, and Nerwyn Lorna who was sold for £2000 at the 2001 Fayre Oaks sale.

This should not have come as any surprise, as his own dam Verdrefawr Blodwen won at the Royal Welsh Show on numerous occasions.

We have shown Daniel successfully; as a youngster he was placed Second at the Royal Welsh as a two-year old and Third as a three-year old. He has won many prizes, although he has not been shown much as an adult.
